COVID-19 outbreak has removed the covering link over super-ego of human races. Human being considered themselves as superior animals of creation and tries to rule over the whole biosphere. However, COVID-19 pandemic reveals that human race is poor and has surrendered to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has jeopardized the present scenario of global health-care systems and forced to realize the human civilization what they have made harm to the mother nature and experienced the reciprocal negative impact in all sphere of life.

Although certain protocols found to be effective for preventive purpose such as wearing of mask, sanitization, and social distancing are mentioned worthy, for curative purpose, there is no any breakthrough yet. Changing of protocol of different practice of medicine to combat the disease fairly indicates the poor wing of medical advancement and pharmaceutical science particularly to get rid from the COVID-19 virus. However, modification of certain behavior, foods, drinks following traditional prescription of diet/remedies in terms of immune boosting remedies showed some benefits. No doubt latest invention of different vaccine and rapid vaccination drive all over the globe considered to be an outstanding milestone combating COVID-19.

From the point of social behavior, climatic, and environmental changes and also from the point of medical anthropology, we have seen certain important phenomenon like densely populated urban areas susceptible for COVID-19 infection, where it is observed severe situation. On the other hand, the areas which are very less populated and free from atmospheric pollution, the incidence of prevalence of disease and morbidity is considerably low. The same phenomenon also should be observed in terms of dietic behavior. So-called urban population accustomed to complicated food behavior against the rule of natural law of adaptability, and so facing problem. Contradictory society practices of traditional food and behavior have better and comfortable sail over.

In this context, if we observe the scenarios of COVID-19 infections in north east region (NER) of India, we observed that in the 1st wave of COVID-19, i.e. in 2020, except Assam other NER states has negligible cases reported until people migrated from heavily infected COVID-19 areas, i.e. from North and south Indian cities. However, there was fairly a smaller number of causalities and recovery was satisfactory. Moreover, traditional food habits and abundance of natural herbal remedies available in the region and subsequent usage of all these may be efficacious. On the other hand, the rich tribal heritage and following of certain folk healings/traditional practices may also be one factor. Obviously, comorbidities and serious involvement of vital parts leads to progression of disease and so causalities. Undoubtedly, migration from highly affected regions and not following of proper protocols leads to comparatively serious phenomenon in the second wave. Misleading media hype created fear and confusion in the mind of the common people which unnecessary creating boomerang in the entire health-care management.

Being the organization related to health education, we have limitation to interfere in the management of COVID-19 in Meghalaya and adjoining areas. As per policy, it is fully under the domain of state government. However, as per need of the hour whenever required, the Institute has responded to the state government. The hospital has served as a quarantine center under Meghalaya Government in the first wave of COVID-19. Observing the seriousness of the scenario, North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH) has taken a series of activities to create awareness among the common people through electronic and print media, circulating the advisories prepared by the Ministry of AYUSH for prophylaxis through pamphlets in bi-lingual mode, distributed immune promoting medicines of both Ayurveda and Homoeopathy to the high-risk populations with the help of local youth, teleconsultation, various webinars, research projects along with vaccination drive in the institute for the staff and students of NEIAH. NEIAH also successfully treated good number of asymptomatic and mild to moderated symptomatic COVID-19-positive cases through Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medicines admitted in different Corona Care Centers as well as home isolated patients.
